Stumbling Blocks to Salvation
1. I want to "believe" but just don't have the faith? This one is easy! Just ask God to reveal Himself to you and start reading the Bible! The Bible is designed to build your faith. Start with the book of John. This book was written for this exact reason. The Bible is a trinity for salvation: Builds faith, Prepares the Heart, Convicts of Sin.
"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." - Romans 10:17
2. I am a good person. The Bible says we have all sinned and there is no one good. Remember you were born separated from God. Even if you act perfectly good your entire life you still are separated from God.
"There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned away; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one." Romans 3:10-12
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
Matthews 19:17-19 - "So he said to him, 'Why do you call Me good? No one is good but one, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments." He said to Him, 'Which ones?' Jesus said, ' You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honor your father and your mother', and 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"
A simple review of the 10 commandments will convict your heart that you are a sinner. You can't keep them! That's why Jesus said this above. Jesus also says that murder and adultery are committed in the heart. Have you ever looked at another person with lust? Have you ever hated someone? Have you stolen anything? Have you ever used God's name in vain even once?
